Determining Source Size in Heavy-Ion Collisions

چکیده
We apply the imaging technique in order to extract the size of emitting sources produced in intermediate-energy, heavy-ion nuclear reactions. In this work, central collisions of Ar+Sc at E/A=100, 150 MeV, Kr+Nb at E/A=70,100,120 MeV, and Sn+Sn at E/A=50 MeV are examined. In addition, inclusive data of He+Ag and N+Au are analyzed. We determine the source size in two different ways: the number of nucleons in each source is calculated geometrically according to the impact parameters determined experimentally using the charged particle multiplicity, and the size of the emitting source is determined using the imaging technique to invert the experimentally obtained twoproton correlation functions. There is a strong correlation between the two methods, and their dependence will be discussed.

Modeling Magnetic Field in Heavy ion Collisions Using Two Different Nuclear Charge Density Distributions
By studying the properties of matter during heavy-ion collisions, a better understanding of the Quark-Gluon plasma is possible. One of the main areas of this study is the calculation of the magnetic field, particularly how the values of conductivity affects this field and how the field strength changes with proper time. In matching the theoretical calculations with results obtained in lab, two diffe...
متن کاملLambda-proton correlations in relativistic heavy ion collisions
The prospect of using Λp correlations to extract source sizes in relativistic heavy ion collisions is investigated. It is found that the strong interaction induces a large peak in the correlation function that provides more sensitive source size measurements than pp correlations under some circumstances. The prospect of using Λp correlations to measure the time lag between lambda and proton emi...
متن کاملEnergy and System-size Dependence of Two-particle Azimuthal Correlations of High-pT Charged Hadrons at the CERN SPS
Angular correlations of high-pT hadrons can serve as a probe of interactions of partons with the dense medium produced in high-energy heavy-ion collisions but other sources of such correlations exist which can be non-negligible SPS energies. In an attempt to determine the primary source, NA49 has performed an energy and system-size scan of two-particle azimuthal correlations in central Pb+Pb, S...
متن کاملSize of the thermal source in relativistic heavy-ion collisions
The dependence of the size of the thermal source on the centrality in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions is studied. The interaction region consists of a well defined thermalized core, and of an outer mantle where the production scales with the number of participants. The thermal source builds up in the region with the largest density of participants in the transverse plane. Particle produc...
متن کاملMass Effects in Bose-Einstein Correlations
Bose-Einstein correlations are of interest to the LEP community as a source of systematic error in W-mass determinations (for example [1–4]), and also to the Heavy Ion community (see [5,6]) as a valuable measurement tool for the size of the fireball created in heavy ion collisions (eg. [7] and refs therein). Due to limited statistics, measurements of BE enhancement at LEP are often made in term...
